3 - Skin Infection Defense Ingredients

It is interesting how long essential oils have been used against infections.  In the Far East, they go back thousands of years.  One blend in Europe, that has been around since the Black Plague, is known as “Thieves” oil.  The story goes that a small band of 4 thieves were robbing the dead bodies but never caught the plague.  When captured, they were “persuaded” to reveal that they rubbed a potion on their bodies that included essential oils.  (The modern day formula is already included in our formula.)

Even the Bible mentions oils 188 times, many in reference to anointing and healing.  Essential oils, the aromatic liquids extracted from plants, may have been the first substances used for healing.  Long before science discovered the therapeutic properties of essential oils, man knew of the healing benefits of Oils, and fathers were anointing (rubbing or pouring oil over) their families and protecting them from disease.  Throughout the Bible we can find that the oils and herbs used had appropriate therapeutic application for the situation.  From the hyssop used on Passover, to Mary anointing Jesus with spikenard, anointing with oil was done for a reason.

There is a large difference in the effectiveness (and price) between a “perfume” essential oil and a “therapeutic grade” essential oil (which we use).  In fact, in smaller amounts, some of the therapeutic grade oils can go up into the $40-$100 an ounce range!  We will describe how these essential oils in more detail in some following articles.  There will also be additional information and descriptive research articles available for those interested.

The Inactive Lotion Ingredients

This was an effort of considerable length!  Most essential oil blends and topical applications use carrier oils to dilute (necessary) and apply the essential oils.  Our first versions also used carrier oils.  The difficulty is that, even using the "dryest" of oils, the lotion stayed OILY for hours.  This made it very difficult for people to fuction or put clothes on.

We wanted a lotion that we could emulsify (hold) the oils, dry enough in about 20 minutes, and still nourish the skin.  A tough call!  Finally, it all came together and we are now able to offer a (mostly) non-oily and organic lotion that is a vast improvement over other essential oil blends!

The Inactive ingredients are from 90 % organic sources and include:

Aloe barbadensis (organic aloe) juice, Rosa damascena (rose) distillate, Cocos nucifera (organic coconut) oil, Kosher vegetable glycerin, Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel), Emulsifying wax NF, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Phenoxyethanol, Simmondsia chinesis (jojoba) oil, Xanthan gum (polysaccharide gum), Salix nigra (organic black willowbark) extract, Mannan, Azadirachta indica (neem) oil, oleoresin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Polysorbate, Citric acid.

Suggested Usage:

Shake before each use (organic ingredients tend to appreciate it).  As with any essential oil, test for personal reactions by applying sample bottle to a small area of infected skin 1-2 times the first day.  If no personal reactions after the first day, apply to all areas desired twice daily. It is most effective if it is allowed to stand for 15 minutes before covering with dressing or clothing.

Warning:  Discontinue use if irritation or reactions occur.  Not for use in, or around eyes.  Inform doctor of usage if pregnant or with small children. This is a tamper resistant bottle, do not use if outer seal is missing.
DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY!   KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN!
