Arm Defense Deodorant Ingredients

“Monolaurin and Lactoferrin and More, Oh My…”

The odor from under arms comes from the growth of bacteria and, sometimes, yeast.  The natural way of preventing odor is to simply prevent bacterial growth!  However, the most common commercial answer is to eliminate the sweat feeding the bacteria.  The only problem is that aluminum is usually used.  Aluminum is toxic, can absorb into the skin and has been linked to Alzheimer's disease.  Our Arm Defense uses natural antibacterials and, while not completely stopping sweat, helps slow it down.

For the first time anywhere, we have been able to combine the two tremendous anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal ingredients in mother’s milk.  These, of course, are monolaurin and lactoferrin.  They are nature’s way of protecting infants from attack!

They do it in different ways.  Monolaurin’s major attack is to break down the pathogen’s cell walls, destroying it.  Lactoferrin takes away the iron the pathogen needs to duplicate, eventually weakening and destroying it.

Both attack bad bacteria (without harming good ones), viruses, fungus and yeast.  Monolaurin is, perhaps, a bit stronger against bacteria, lactoferrin, perhaps stronger with more viruses.  Both attack fungus and yeasts.

The Combination is Nature’s
Best Tag-Team Combo!

We discuss these nutrients in much more detail in the "A-Z Index".   They are the backbone of natural infection defense.   Even the FDA recognizes the abilities of these two!  They have been clinically shown to kill every pathogen bacteria they were tested against – including the tough MRSA staph infection!

Coconut Phospholipids are also excellent bacterial defenders skin conditioners - and also with clinical studies to back the ones we use!  They form an excellent partnership with monolaurin and lactoferrin for full spectrum bacterial infection defense.  Fewer people are familiar with phospholipids and, if you are not familiar with them from our other products, we encourage you to read about them - also in the Index link above.

Plant Essential Oils are the third ingredient.  Again, more information about essential oils are also available in the Index link above but we wanted to give you a brief summary below.

More on Essential Oils

Some more comment here may be appropriate for essential oils have long been used against infections.  In the Far East, they go back thousands of years.  One blend in Europe, that has been around since the Black Plague, is known as “Thieves” oil.  The story goes that a small band of 4 thieves were robbing the dead bodies but never caught the plague.  When captured, they were “persuaded” to reveal that they rubbed a potion on their bodies that included essential oils.  (The modern day formula is already included in our formula.)

Even the Bible mentions oils 188 times, many in reference to anointing and healing.  Essential oils, the aromatic liquids extracted from plants, may have been the first substances used for healing.  Long before science discovered the therapeutic properties of essential oils, man knew of the healing benefits of oils.  The oils and herbs used had appropriate therapeutic application for the situation.

There is a large difference in the effectiveness (and price) between a “perfume” essential oil and a “therapeutic grade” essential oil (which we use).  In fact, in smaller amounts, some of the therapeutic grade oils can go up into the $80-$200 an ounce range!  There is also additional information and descriptive research articles available for those interested.

The Inactive Lotion Ingredients

This was an effort of considerable length!  Most essential oil blends and topical applications use carrier oils to dilute and apply the essential oils (it's necessary).  Our first versions also used carrier oils.  The difficulty is that, even using the "dryest" of oils, the lotion stayed OILY for hours.  This made it uncomfortable for people to fuction or put clothes on.

We wanted a lotion that we could emulsify (hold) the monolaurin, lactoferrin, phospholipids and essential oils, dry quickly, and still prevent odor.  A tough call!  Finally, it all came together and we are now able to offer a (mostly) non-oily and organic lotion that is a vast improvement over other essential oil blends!

The Inactive ingredients are from 90 % organic sources and include:

Aloe barbadensis (organic aloe) juice,
Rosa damascena (rose) distillate,
Cocos nucifera (organic coconut) oil,
Kosher vegetable glycerin,
Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel),
Emulsifying wax NF,
Tocopherol (vitamin E),
Phenoxyethanol,
Simmondsia chinesis (jojoba) oil,
Xanthan gum (polysaccharide gum),

Azadirachta indica (neem) oil,
Oleoresin,
